    Job Description

The Legacy Gift Officer (LGO) plays a vital role in advancing Lurie Children’s Foundation’s comprehensive gift planning program, coordinate matured gifts and stewardship while managing and growing a portfolio of planned giving prospects. Reporting to the Associate Director of Legacy and Leadership Giving, the role is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to deepen their knowledge in gift planning—working with a variety of giving vehicles including bequests, CGAs, charitable trusts, and gifts of assets like securities, DAFs, and IRAs—while contributing to a mission that transforms children’s health.

Lurie Children’s offers a flexible, inclusive, and collaborative work environment where innovation, learning, and relationship-building are encouraged and celebrated. For the right person—curious, driven, and ready to make a meaningful impact—this is a chance to build a strong foundation in planned giving while helping advance a cause that is meaningful to tens of thousands of patient families and donors.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Gift Administration, Tracking & Reporting: Provides excellent customer service in responding to planned giving inquiries from prospects, financial advisors and estate attorneys. • Program Support & Engagement: Contributes to the engagement strategy and execution of activities for planned giving donors, legacy society members and colleagues in the financial advisors/estate attorney program. Assists in coordinating events, donor recognition and stewardship activities.
    • Donor Cultivation & Solicitation: Manages a portfolio of legacy giving donor prospects with the goals of cultivating meaningful relationships, soliciting planned and outright gifts, and documenting bequest intentions and other planned gift commitments.
    • Internal Collaboration: Collaborates effectively with major gifts, direct response, prospect management, donor relations, communications, and other Foundation colleagues to implement integrated strategies that identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward planned giving donors and prospects.
    • Gift Expertise: Provides information on various planned giving vehicles and strategies to donors, prospects, and internal colleagues, based on donor goals and Foundation priorities. Assists donors and their advisors through the gift planning process. As needed, prepares gift proposals and illustrations for planned giving vehicles.
    • Marketing Support: Partners with the Direct Response Team (who are responsible for planning and executing marketing strategies that promote the planned gifts program) to identify audiences in the database and reviews messaging for accuracy.
    • Professional Development: Stays informed about current planned giving trends, techniques, and relevant legislation. Cultivates relationships within the professional advisor community as appropriate.
    • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college required.
    • Three to five years of experience in fundraising, preferably in planned giving. Experience in a healthcare or academic setting is a plus.
    • Understanding of planned giving vehicles (bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts, gifts of assets like securities, DAF’s, IRAs, etc.) and familiarity with basic tax and estate planning concepts related to charitable gifts.
    • Proven ability to build rapport and maintain positive relationships with donors, colleagues, and volunteers. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
    • Experience with donor database management, preferably Blackbaud products. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and pay close attention to detail.
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
    • High level of discretion and ethical conduct in handling confidential donor information.
    • Resourcefulness, initiative, and developing strategic thinking skills.
